Mesothelioma and the early signs are generally non-specific, and often may lead into delays in proper diagnosis. One of the characteristics is what they call viral pneumonia, pleural mesothelioma patients may experience shortness of breath, chest pain and/or persistant cough;
then you have others who show no symtoms at all. now some xrays may show a build- up of fluid or what they call pleural effusion. Now for some reason not yet known, the right lung is affected 60% of the time, in the case of both lungs being examined in approximatly 5% of the patients at the time of diagnosis. Rare symptoms of pleural mesothelioma include fever, night sweats, and loss of weight. Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma may include pain or swelling in the abdomen do to an increased level of fluid, nausea,weight loss, bowel obstruction, anemia or swelling of the feet.
